Maputo Fast Forward 2017
October, 2017

It aims to explore the imaginary of the user, especially the residents of Maputo, not only from a visual perspective of the city, but much more sensory and social. An encounter between "what is supposed to be" and "what is". It is a look at the real. It is to understand if after all, everything is just a Facade. It is recommended to be used with a critical heart and a distracted head.

Fully documented in 2013, when one lived the apogee of great projects, opportunities for almost everyone to make money, to rise socially, exhibiting luxuries and discovering extravagances. But rapid economic growth has never been parallel to the pace of poverty reduction.

Ricardo Franco looks to what lies behind the Facades. Through the lens of the photojournalist saturated with social perspective, he humanizes various contexts, making names and life stories that are as real as mine or yours. A journey where, to the rhythm of music, influenced by the imaginary of the text and the real of the images, everything merges into a single sensation. In one truth.
It is a personal incursion into the city of Maputo. It is a confrontation between judgments, realities and prejudices.
It is taking off the mask and unveiling the other side of the facades.

Reading recommendation:
Architect, José Forjaz in interview to Expresso (Portugal), 2013

Expresso: "He said that the Mozambicans who served Maputo before independence lived badly and continue to live.

JF: Things have improved little or even got worse. The density is higher and the living conditions are worse. There is insufficient spontaneous organisation. Physical and social disorder leads to serious criminal situations, because there are no conditions of defence, nor lighting. Life is very hard".
